  • Additional prescriptions, blood work orders, and medical history forms may be included based on individual patient needs.
  • Please follow these instructions to avoid rescheduling your appointment.
  • We will make every effort to keep your appointment; however, it is sometimes necessary to make adjustments to the schedule. Your cooperation is appreciated.
  • Your admission, procedure, and recovery time will require approximately 2 - 2 ½ hours.

Insurance

It is the patient’s responsibility to bring your insurance card, notify us of any change, & obtain insurance referrals if needed.


Health Conditions

If you have any of these health conditions, please read the following instructions:

Diabetes:

  • Call the physician who manages your diabetes.
  • Tell them you are having a colonoscopy and will be on a clear liquid diet the day before colonoscopy. Ask how you should take your diabetic medicine.
  • If you check your blood sugar at home, please do so and bring the results with you.

Latex Allergy:

  • If you are allergic to latex, please call our office at 865-2955.

Medications

Coumadin/Warfarin Patients:
If you have not previously informed us that you are taking this medication, please call the office two weeks before your appointment to alert our Scheduling Staff.

Other Blood Thinning Medications:
If you take Plavix, Persantine, Pletal, Arixtra, Heparin, Aggrenox, Ticlid or Lovenox please call our office immediately at 865-2955. If you take daily aspirin, you may continue to do so.

Antibiotics:
The American Heart Association no longer recommends prophylactic antibiotics prior to GI Procedures. However, there may be exceptions, if you have a concern contact the doctor that prescribes your antibiotics to discuss this.

Iron Supplements and Vitamins with Iron:
Should be stopped 2 weeks before your procedure.

Daily medication:
Prescription medicine (i.e. blood pressure & heart medicine) should be taken as usual on the day of your procedure with a sip of water. Calcium Supplements, Folic Acid, B Vitamins, Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Herbal Supplements, and Glucosamine Chondroitin need not be stopped.


Sedation

During your procedure you will be given moderate sedation to help you relax and make you comfortable. This is not general anesthesia. The sedation may make you sleepy and forgetful. You must have someone drive you home. This person must stay in the waiting room. They are responsible for signing you out at discharge time.


Clear Liquid Diet Suggestions

  • Water
  • Clear fruit juice without pulp
  • Apple juice, white grape juice
  • Gatorade and Power-Aid
  • Coffee and Tea without diary products
  • Popsicles
  • Jell-O
  • Carbonated beverages
  • Clear broth or bouillon
  • Clear Liquids with NutraSweet are allowed
  • NO red or purple colored liquids
  • NO dairy products
  • NO alcoholic beverages

PREPS
NEVER take more than one prep prior to a procedure. If you have questions regarding your prep call our office at (317) 865-2955.


Standard Colon Prep

Bowel Prep:
The prescription for your Colon Cleansing Prep is enclosed. The day before your procedure mix the prep according to the instructions that come with the prep. DO NOT mix the prep more than 24 hours prior to the time you plan to drink it. The prep can be taken chilled or at room temperature.

Follow these instructions for drinking the prep:

The Day Before Your Procedure:

NO SOLID FOOD OR DAIRY PRODUCTS ALL DAY.

  • Begin drinking the prep at 2 p.m. You will drink half of the prep (2 liters) today.
  • Drink 8 oz. of the prep every 15 minutes. Taking the prep too quickly may cause nausea, vomiting, chills, or bloating. You may take the prep slower if necessary.
  • Using a straw may be helpful if the taste is bothersome.
  • If you experience nausea or vomiting, STOP drinking the prep and rest for 1 hour. Resume drinking the prep at a slower rate.
  • Drink all of the 2 liters. It will take several hours to complete.
  • Remain close to restroom facilities.
  • Bloating may occur, but should resolve once you start having bowel movements.
  • Drink plenty of clear liquids to avoid dehydration.
  • You may apply a diaper rash ointment to the rectal area if you develop discomfort from frequent stools.

On The Day Of Your Procedure:

  • Remember NO solid food or dairy products. Six hours before your procedure, start drinking the remaining 2 liters of the prep. You must finish drinking the prep by 2 hours prior to your arrival time.
  • DO NOT drink anything 2 hours before your procedure, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF your daily heart and/or blood pressure medication. These medications should be taken as you normally would with a sip of water.

After Your Procedure:

  • You will be given Discharge Instructions about resuming your activities.
  • If a biopsy was taken, you will be notified of the result by mail in 14 working days.

MoviPrep

Bowel Prep:
The prescription for your Colon Cleansing Prep is enclosed. Follow these instructions for drinking the prep:

NO SOLID FOOD OR DAIRY PRODUCTS ALL DAY.

The Day Before Your Procedure:

  • At 5 p.m. empty 1- Pouch A and 1- Pouch B into the disposable container.
  • Add lukewarm drinking water to the top line of the container. Mix to dissolve.
  • The MoviPrep container is divided by 4 marks. Every 15 minutes, drink the solution down to the next mark (approximately 8 oz.), until the full liter is finished.
  • Drink 16 oz. of any clear liquid.
  • Using a straw to drink the prep may be helpful if the taste is bothersome.
  • If you experience nausea or vomiting, STOP drinking the prep and rest for 1 hour. Resume drinking the prep at a slower rate.
  • Remain close to restroom facilities. Bloating may occur, but should resolve once you start having bowel movements. Drink clear liquids to avoid dehydration.

On The Day Of Your Procedure:

  • At 8 a.m.(or 6 hrs. before leaving for your procedure), empty 1- Pouch A and 1- Pouch B into the disposable container.
  • Add lukewarm drinking water to the top line of the container. Mix to dissolve.
  • Every 15 minutes, drink the solution down to the next mark on the container (approximately 8 oz.), until the full liter is finished.
  • Drink 16 oz. of any clear liquid .
  • DO NOT drink anything 2 hrs. before your procedure WITH THE EXCEPTION OF your daily heart and /or blood pressure medication. These should be taken as you normally would with a sip of water.

After Your Procedure:

  • You will be given Discharge Instructions about resuming your activities.

Sigmoidoscopy Prep

Prep:

YOU MAY CONTINUE YOUR REGULAR DIET.

  • Buy 2 regular Fleet Enemas (green & white box), these are sold over the counter at your pharmacy. You may also buy the generic brand, but check with the pharmacist.
  • Use one enema two hours before leaving your home.
  • Use the second enema one hour before you leave to come to your appointment.
  • Remain close to restroom facilities.

The Endoscopy Center is located on the first floor (Suite 150) There is limited space in The Endoscopy Center waiting and recovery room areas. Please do not allow small children to accompany you if possible.
