| 1. Do I have to drink a gallon of the Standard Prep?
Yes, in most cases it is necessary to drink the entire gallon to cleanse your colon. If the colon is not properly cleansed your doctor may not be able to complete your exam.
2. When should I mix up the Standard Prep?
The Prep should not be mixed more than 24 hours before your test date.
3. What are suggestions for drinking the Standard Prep?
Drink 8 oz. of the prep slowly every 30 minutes till gone. You may drink the prep faster if tolerated. Taking the prep too fast can result in nausea, vomiting, chills or bloating.
4. What if I have trouble drinking the Prep?
Using a straw to drink the Prep is helpful if the taste is bothersome.
5. What if I become nauseated or vomit the Prep?
This sometimes happens when the Prep is taken too quickly. Avoid chugging or gulping the Prep. If nausea or vomiting occurs, stop drinking the Prep for one to two hours. Resume drinking the Prep at a slower rate.
6. Can I take my daily medications?
Multiple Vitamins that contain Iron, Iron supplements, Herbal Supplements, & Vitamin E should be stopped 2 weeks prior to your procedure. In most cases you can take your prescription medications as you normally would with a sip of water. If you take any blood thinning medications, such as; Coumadin, Lovenox, Plavix, Ticlid or Persantine please call our office as soon as possible. If you take one Aspirin a day, you may continue to do so. Please call our office for any questions or concerns.
7. What is a "Clear Liquid Diet?"
You must drink clear liquids only for breakfast, lunch and supper the day before your procedure. This means no solid food or dairy products until after your procedure. You may drink as much clear liquid as you like. It is important to drink plenty of clear liquids to prevent dehydration. You may have clear liquids up to 5 hours before your procedure.
Clear Liquid Diet Suggestions:
- Water
- Clear fruit juice without pulp
- Apple juice, white grape juice
- Gatorade & Power-Aid
- Coffee/ Tea without dairy products
- Popsicles
- Jell-O without Nutra Sweet
- Carbonated Beverages
- Clear Broth or bouillon
- Avoid NutraSweet
- Avoid red or purple colored liquids
- Avoid dairy products
- Avoid alcoholic beverages
8. Am I allowed to chew gum?
Yes.
9. What should I bring to my procedure?
You should bring a list of the medications you take. Please complete any medical history forms that may have been enclosed Bring your insurance card. It is your responsibility to obtain referrals required by your insurance company for any medical care you may need. Dress comfortably. You will need to bring a driver. This person will be required to stay in the waiting room during your procedure to be available to physicians & staff. (You may not use a taxi service to come & go from your appointment.)
10. How long will my procedure take?
You will be at the Center a total of 2-2 ½ hrs. this includes your pre-op, procedure, & recovery time.
11. Will I get any sedation for the procedure?
Yes, you will receive Moderate Sedation. This will keep you comfortable and relaxed during the procedure. This is not a General Anesthesia. The sedation may make you drowsy and forgetful. You should not plan to return to work, operate machinery or sign important documents on the day of your procedure. You will need a driver to drive you to and from your procedure.
12. When will I get the results of my procedure?
If a biopsy was taken you will be informed of the results by mail in 14 working days.
13. When can I resume my daily routine activities?
